Founded in 2019, the company emerged from the Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) AgriTech Challenge after extensive market research revealed a critical challenge facing rice, sorghum, and millet farmers: devastating losses of 15-20% of annual yield to pest birds, translating to over $80 million in losses annually across Ghana alone. The startup developed an innovative eco-friendly solution that uses specialized drone technology combined with biologically-based aural and visual aids to effectively ward off pest birds by triggering their natural fear instincts.

The company’s proprietary technology represents a significant advancement over conventional bird-scaring methods, which have proven largely ineffective and labor-intensive. Traditional approaches require farmers to spend 8-10 hours daily manually scaring birds using noise makers, clanging metals, and catapults. aiScarecrow’s solution cuts losses to pest birds by an impressive 90-95% while saving farmers valuable time and resources. Their locally designed and assembled drones deploy randomized combinations of visual and audio signals that prevent habituation, ensuring sustained effectiveness throughout the farming season. Beyond drone-based crop protection, the company also provides pest management consultancy, agricultural drone services for spraying and mapping, and retail/wholesale services for cereals.

Led by a diverse team of five co-founders including Mary Aboagye (Chief Communications Officer and Environmental Scientist), Silas Karikari Boateng (Agriculturist), Bright Tetteh Kwao (Technical Lead with Engineering Physics background), Isaac Boakye (Operations Lead with Computer Science expertise), and Boris Boadi (Financial Lead), aiScarecrow Technologies has garnered significant recognition in the African startup ecosystem.
