AI-powered African language localization platform
LangEasy.ai is a pioneering African language data collection platform developed by Awarri, a Lagos-based AI research startup founded by Silas Adekunle and Eniola Edun in 2019. Created to support Nigeria’s first government-backed multilingual Large Language Model (LLM), LangEasy addresses a critical gap in AI development by collecting high-quality voice and text data in Nigerian languages including Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Ibibio, Efik, and Nigerian Pidgin. Launched in 2023, the platform emerged from the founders’ vision that “Africans can solve African problems through technology,” building foundational AI tools rather than simply consuming Western technology.
At its core, LangEasy.ai delivers an AI-powered content localization solution that enables users to translate and adapt any type of content—from live-action and animated videos to articles, images, and audio—all in one centralized platform. The platform’s advanced AI features include voice cloning, automatic voiceover replacement, synchronized subtitle generation, and real-time translation that maintains formatting and updates dynamically with source content changes. Users can localize content from any social media platform by simply pasting a video link, selecting target languages, and receiving fully translated content with culturally appropriate voice-overs and subtitles. This multimodal approach democratizes content localization, eliminating the traditional need for designers, translators, or video editors while making global reach accessible to African creators and businesses.
Beyond its commercial application, LangEasy.ai serves a profound social impact mission by preserving endangered African languages and enabling AI to understand how Nigerians actually speak. The platform crowdsources linguistic data from thousands of Nigerians through the government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program, treating contributors not as cheap labor but as cultural experts whose knowledge represents premium assets. With ethical compensation at its foundation, LangEasy has helped Awarri’s data annotation lab employ over 100 workers while building toward ambitious goals of collecting up to 500,000 hours of audio data. Backed by partnerships with DataDotOrg, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the National Centre for AI and Robotics (NCAIR), and support from Nigeria’s Ministry of Communication, LangEasy.ai is empowering Africa to own its linguistic representation in the global AI revolution.
